Peter L. Slavin, MD, has been appointed as the president and CEO of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Cedars-Sinai Health System, succeeding Thomas M. Priselac, who retired on September 30 after 30 years in the role and 45 years of service.
Priselac will now serve as president and CEO emeritus, advising Slavin and the organization.
Dr. Slavin is a distinguished leader in academic medicine, having served as president of Massachusetts General Hospital from 2003 to 2021. During his tenure, he oversaw significant growth in clinical care, research funding, workforce development, and community health initiatives. Under his leadership, Mass General earned national recognition for equity and community health, including the American Hospital Association's inaugural Equity of Care Award in 2014.
Slavin has also played a prominent role on the national stage, chairing the board of the Association of American Medical Colleges and earning membership in the National Academy of Medicine and the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.
A Harvard College graduate with a medical degree from Harvard Medical School and an MBA from Harvard Business School, Slavin’s career includes leadership roles such as senior vice president and chief medical officer at Mass General, founding president of Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, and chair and CEO of the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization.
As the new president and CEO of Cedars-Sinai, Slavin brings decades of experience and a commitment to advancing the institution’s mission in clinical care, research, education, and community service.
