Eon, a specialist in incidental findings and early detection technology, has appointed Matthew Lungren, MD, MPH, to its Board of Directors. Dr. Lungren arrives with an unusual mix of clinical, academic and commercial experience in healthcare artificial intelligence, having led multimodal AI research at Stanford and healthcare AI product development at Microsoft.
He started out on the faculty of Stanford University School of Medicine, where he set up a new dedicated clinical service, built a clinical AI research programme backed by the NIH and industry partners, and co-founded the Stanford Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Imaging (AIMI).
He subsequently moved to Microsoft as Chief Scientific Officer for Health and Life Sciences, later taking up the post of AI Technical Advisor in the Office of the CTO. In those roles he directed cross-company teams that carried multimodal healthcare foundation models, along with auditable generative AI and agentic workflows, out of the research stage and into production.
