Phoenix Children's has appointed Carolina V. Guimaraes, MD, as Vice President and Chief of Radiology, placing a nationally recognised paediatric radiologist at the head of its imaging service.
Dr. Guimaraes has built a reputation for expanding paediatric imaging services, establishing academic programmes of national standing and developing the next generation of physician leaders. The health system calls her a strong fit for the team's next phase.
She joins in December from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she is Professor of Radiology and Pediatrics, Division Chief of Pediatric Radiology and Vice Chair of Operations for the Department of Radiology.
Her five years at UNC coincided with significant growth in paediatric radiology. She enlarged the faculty and the division's clinical capabilities, widened paediatric subspecialty imaging services, set up the institution's Pediatric Radiology Fellowship Program and built an active academic culture.
