Renata Medical’s First-of-Its-Kind Minima Growth Stent Receives US FDA Approval

Renata Medical  announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved first-of-its-kind Minima Growth Stent, specifically tailored for neonates, infants, and young children.

This approval makes advancement in the care of young children facing congenital heart defects. The Minima Stent is designed to treat stenosis (narrowing) in the aorta or pulmonary arteries.

The aorta carries oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the entire body, while the pulmonary arteries transport oxygen-poor blood from the heart to the lungs.

Stenosis can develop naturally or result from previous surgical procedures, forcing the heart to work harder. If left untreated, narrowing in these arteries can lead to heart failure and even death.

For young patients with aortic or pulmonary stenosis, the Minima Stent offers a minimally invasive solution that can be expanded as the child grows.

Minima's unique design with long, thin frames allow it to be crimped down to < 2mm. This design also helps the stent expand to larger sizes by maintaining enough force to keep the narrowed vessel open.

As a result, the approval of the Minima Stent will have a positive effect on most vulnerable cardiac patients.
