Philips Introduces Spectral CT 7500 RT, the World’s First Spectral 4DCT with FDA 510(k) Clearance

Philips has announced the FDA 510(k) clearance for its Spectral CT 7500 RT, the first detector-based spectral 4DCT solution for radiotherapy.

This innovation is set to advance cancer treatment by incorporating spectral CT’s unique tumour imaging and tissue characterisation capabilities into radiotherapy planning.

The technology allows clinicians to precisely target radiation therapy to a tumour's specific physiological properties, minimising harm to surrounding healthy tissues and reducing potential side effects.

The Spectral CT 7500 RT combines conventional and spectral CT imaging in a single scan, ensuring seamless integration into existing clinical workflows.

It is the first radiotherapy CT scanner to feature respiratory-gated spectral imaging, offering enhanced visualisation and quantification of tissues.

This enables radiotherapy departments to improve accuracy, reduce costs associated with additional scans, and deliver more effective treatment plans for a larger number of patients.

By enhancing tumour visualisation, tissue characterisation, and respiratory motion tracking, the spectral imaging technology supports highly personalised and precise radiotherapy without adding complexity to current workflows.

The system also provides spectral information that reduces proton stopping-power ratio (SPR) error by over 50% compared to conventional CT imaging. This improvement ensures greater accuracy in radiation delivery and helps protect healthy tissues during treatment.

The Spectral CT 7500 RT generates both conventional and spectral CT data in a single scan, automatically producing SPR maps and direct electron density (ED) results with minimal deviation.

These features enhance dose calculation and radiotherapy planning precision. Research indicates that SPR maps obtained through spectral imaging have significantly lower uncertainties, leading to improved accuracy in treatment and reduced safety margins.
