Hyperion Surgical Achieves Key Clinical Milestone with Ivy™ Robotic Platform

Hyperion Surgical, Inc. has completed the world’s first robotic-assisted intravenous (IV) catheterisation using its Ivy™ robotic vascular access platform.

The system combines advanced imaging, artificial intelligence (AI), and robotic precision to enable a fully no-touch approach to IV placement.

Conducted earlier this year, the first-in-human study marks the first clinical use of a robotic-assisted system for peripheral IV catheterisation—the most common invasive medical procedure, with more than 300 million performed annually in the United States.

The Ivy platform aims to address the high variability and failure rates often seen in IV placements.
Unlike handheld ultrasound systems that rely on manual coordination, Ivy autonomously performs catheter insertion with continuous imaging, AI vessel recognition, and robotic precision.

The platform’s ability to hold and operate the probe and needle automatically is intended to simplify the procedure, improve accuracy, and reduce clinician workload.

Portable and quick to set up, Ivy is designed for use across emergency, inpatient, and outpatient care.

Following the study, Hyperion Surgical plans to seek U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance and conduct further evaluations.
