Werribee Mercy Hospital invests $280 million in Emergency Department Expansion

Introduction

Major structural works have now been completed on the Werribee Mercy Hospital emergency department expansion, marking a key milestone in this significant upgrade project. The redevelopment, valued at approximately $280 million, is being delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority in collaboration with Mercy Health, Lyons Architecture, and construction partner Besix Watpac.

Features:

The expanded emergency department will feature a total of 67 treatment spaces, more than doubling the current capacity of 33.

It will also include four new resuscitation bays, 16 short stay beds, and 36 emergency care cubicles, significantly enhancing the hospital’s ability to manage a growing number of patients and provide timely, high-quality care.

This upgrade will effectively double the hospital’s emergency capacity, improving access and reducing wait times for patients in the region.

The full expansion is expected to be finished in 2026.
