The Strong Expansion Project is a groundbreaking initiative with the goal of substantially enhancing the capacity of the Strong Memorial Hospital's Emergency Department and introducing a state-of-the-art nine-story patient tower.

The project also includes the construction of a nine-story inpatient bed tower, which will not only bolster the Emergency Department's capabilities but also provide more than 100 private inpatient rooms and floors designated for future operating rooms and advanced treatment services.
A noteworthy aspect of the project involves consolidating cardiovascular services within the new tower, leveraging the University of Rochester Medical Center's distinguished history of pioneering advancements in cardiac care.
URMC's notable achievements in this domain encompass the development of therapies to manage arrhythmias and prevent sudden cardiac death, the innovation of mechanical pumps for advanced heart failure patients, and the establishment of Upstate New York's sole heart transplant program.
Expected to conclude by 2027, the project's primary objective is to tackle long-standing community issues, including chronic bed shortages and overcrowding within the Emergency Department.
