Introduction
Sanford Health has received a major $300 million philanthropic gift from Denny Sanford to support the creation of a new medical centre campus in Rapid City, serving western South Dakota and the wider Black Hills region. The project aims to expand access to advanced healthcare and continue long-term improvements to medical services across local communities.
Features
The new Sanford Black Hills Medical Centre will be built in southwest Rapid City next to the Black Hills Orthopedic and Spine Center.
The 480,000-square-foot campus is planned to include 168 inpatient beds, with capacity to add the same number again in the future.
Key facilities will cover emergency care, intensive care, surgical suites, cath labs, dialysis services and full imaging support.
Oncology treatment and comprehensive women’s health, including maternity services, will also be available, along with dedicated children’s inpatient and outpatient units.
Sanford Health also plans to invest $10 million over the next ten years in education programmes with regional schools and colleges.
This will help develop future healthcare professionals locally and provide training and career opportunities for young people.
Year of Completion
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with completion expected in 2030.
