Introduction
Monument Health has begun construction on a US$48 million expansion at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital in South Dakota. The 63,000-square-foot development is designed to expand maternal, neonatal and paediatric services for families across western South Dakota and eastern Wyoming.
Features
The expansion will add 19 Labour, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum (LDRP) rooms), allowing mothers and families to remain in one room throughout labour, delivery, recovery and postpartum care.
This model is designed to improve continuity of care and provide a more comfortable experience for families.
The project will also redevelop the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), replacing the existing open-bay layout with 25 private and semi-private rooms, including 17 private rooms and four twin rooms.
The new design will provide greater privacy and a supportive environment for families of newborns requiring extended specialist care.
Additional space within the existing Children’s Hospital will support the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, inpatient paediatrics, outpatient laboratory services, paediatric sedation, chemotherapy and infusion services, and retinopathy of prematurity examinations.
The Monument Health Foundation raised $7.1 million through community donations to support the project.
