Inspira Health Boosts Maternity Capacity Through US$257Million Expansion

Introduction

Inspira Health has opened an expanded maternity unit at Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill in New Jersey, strengthening its capacity to provide maternity services to growing families across South Jersey. The expansion is part of a wider US$257 million campus development and renovation programme aimed at increasing hospital capacity and expanding specialised care.

Features

The maternity unit has doubled in size to approximately 36,000 square feet, while staffed maternity beds have increased from 20 to 38.

The expanded space supports patients throughout labour, delivery, recovery and postpartum care, with areas designed to improve privacy, communication and the overall experience for parents, newborns and clinical teams.

The broader hospital project includes a new 150,000-square-foot, five-storey tower, additional surgical and intensive care capacity, expanded clinical education and residency facilities, renovated hospital areas and additional parking.

The revised development plan also includes a 32-bed surgical unit, increased intensive care capacity and specialised neuro intensive care resources.

These additions will support the hospital’s growing neuroscience partnership with Cooper University Health Care.

The project is expected to add 86 beds, taking the hospital’s licensed capacity to 296 beds, along with a 24-bed observation unit to improve patient flow and reduce emergency department waiting.
