Grady Health Plans $1 Billion South Fulton Medical Campus Expansion

Introduction

Grady Health System has announced plans to develop a new medical campus in South Fulton County, aimed at improving access to healthcare and easing pressure on existing facilities. The project forms part of a broader long-term strategy to expand services, support growing demand, and strengthen healthcare delivery across the region.

Features

The development will take place in stages. It will start with a medical office complex that provides various services, including diagnostic imaging, a surgical centre, specialist clinics, pharmacy services, rehabilitation care, and a dedicated level for paediatric patients.

A major component of the project will be a 200-bed acute care hospital. This facility will include critical care, intermediate care, and general acute care units.

It is also expected to operate as a Level 3 trauma centre, capable of handling emergency cases and stabilising patients before transferring more complex cases if needed.

The campus will also incorporate a freestanding emergency department currently under construction, which will later become part of the hospital.

The full hospital completion is by 2031.
