Essentia Health-Fosston Begins $12 Million Emergency Department Expansion

Introduction

Essentia Health has started construction on a new emergency department at its Fosston facility. The £9.5 million (approximately $12 million) project is designed to improve emergency care services and strengthen healthcare access for residents in Fosston and nearby rural areas.

Features

The new emergency department will expand the existing facility by more than 5,500 square feet and is designed to create a more efficient and patient-friendly environment.

It will include private treatment rooms, including dedicated spaces for behavioural health patients, to support safer and more confidential care.

A new ambulance bay will also be added to improve emergency response operations.

The upgrade aims to enhance care delivery at this Level IV Trauma hospital, which already provides 24-hour emergency services, walk-in care, same-day primary care access, and more than 20 specialty services tailored to local needs.

The expansion is expected to support both patients and staff by improving space, workflow, and overall service capacity.

The project is expected to be completed by summer 2027.
