Children's Mercy Kansas City and KVC Health Systems break ground for a $53 million Mental Wellness Campus

Introduction:

Children’s Mercy Kansas City and KVC Health Systems have partnered in a joint venture to increase inpatient mental health treatment capacity in the greater Kansas City area and the surrounding region.

Features:

The new hospital aims to alleviate the burden on area emergency departments that may not have the resources to cater to patients in mental health crisis.

It will have a total of 72 beds, with 48 beds for pediatric patients and 24 beds for adults.

The mental health healing campus will include six private courtyards, walking paths, and dining and activity spaces.

The hospital's design will focus on patient and staff safety, supportive care and treatment spaces, patient wellness, and a connection with nature.

It is projected to provide care for more than 3,400 patients annually.

The project is expected to create approximately 150 new jobs.

The hospital will play a crucial role in meeting the acute inpatient mental health needs in the greater Kansas City area and the region.

The hospital is planned to open in late 2024.
