Introduction:

Houston Methodist has begun work on US$1.4 billion hospital tower at the Texas Medical Center.

Features:

The 26-story structure will include a modernized and enlarged emergency department as well as almost 400 patient beds.

There will be 175 new beds and 207 beds to replace those in the main building of Houston Methodist.

The tower will also house transplant medicine, intermediate care, and surgical intensive care, which will be relocated.

In addition, the tower will replace seven operating rooms with the most up-to-date equipment, as well as add two operating room suites and improved radiology capabilities.

The upgraded emergency department will have 54 beds, plus additional beds, as well as simple pedestrian and ambulance drop-off spots, ambulance bays, and easy in-and-out access.

A rooftop outdoor garden with trees and landscaping will sit atop the tower's 14th floor allowing patients, visitors, and staff to enjoy some respite.

The hospital tower will be completed in 2027.
