Atlantic Health Overlook Invests US$70 Million to Expand Surgical Capacity

Introduction

Atlantic Health Overlook Medical Center has begun construction on the John E. Reeves Center for Advanced Surgery as part of a US$70 million expansion project. The development will increase surgical capacity, modernise existing facilities and support advanced procedures, helping the hospital meet rising demand for surgical services and accommodate future growth.

Features

The planned expansion will increase the hospital’s total operating rooms from 20 to 26, including an increase in the main operating room suites from 12 to 18.

Twelve existing operating rooms will be renovated, while six integrated operating rooms will support robotic surgery, intraoperative imaging and minimally invasive procedures.
The project will also introduce a new 50-bay pre-operative and post-operative care unit, including 24 private bays.

Infrastructure improvements will cover heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems, electrical wiring, lighting and infection control systems.

Two elevators will be added to improve movement between surgical and support areas. Sterile processing facilities and surgical support zones will also be expanded and modernised.

The design includes additional space for future expansion of neurosurgical services.
The project represents the first major upgrade to the hospital’s main surgical area in approximately 45 years.
