Zimmer Biomet Introduces Novel ROSA® Shoulder System for Shoulder Replacement Surgery

Zimmer Biomet Holdings has recently secured FDA 510(k) clearance for its ROSA® Shoulder System, a significant achievement in the realm of robotic-assisted shoulder replacement surgery. This development positions ROSA Shoulder as the world's leading robotic surgery system specialized for shoulder replacement, complementing Zimmer Biomet's extensive suite of advanced medical technologies.

The ROSA Robotics portfolio, which now includes the ROSA Shoulder System, encompasses state-of-the-art solutions like the ROSA Knee System and ROSA Hip System, utilized in total knee arthroplasty and total hip replacement surgeries, respectively. With ROSA Shoulder, Zimmer Biomet strengthens its range of shoulder implant offerings, including the Identity Shoulder System.

The integration of ZBEdge™ Dynamic Intelligence™ underscores Zimmer Biomet's dedication to leveraging digital technologies, robotics, and implant solutions to enhance surgical outcomes and patient care. ROSA Shoulder facilitates highly intricate shoulder procedures with precision and efficiency, empowering surgeons to utilize robotic assistance and data analytics.

ROSA Shoulder boasts features such as accommodating both anatomic and reverse techniques for total shoulder replacement surgeries, as well as replicating humeral head resectioning without the need for a central pin in the glenoid. This system supports data-driven decision-making by providing real-time intra-operative feedback to surgeons, optimizing glenoid and humeral placement and potentially reducing complications for patients.

Before surgery, ROSA Shoulder seamlessly integrates with the Signature™ ONE Surgical Planning System 2.0, facilitating surgical visualization, planning, and the creation of patient-specific guides through a 3-D image-based approach. During surgery, surgeons benefit from live feedback and control over glenoid ream depth and cut resections, enabling precise execution of personalized surgical plans.

ROSA Shoulder is slated for commercial availability in the United States during the second half of 2024, promising to innovate the landscape of shoulder replacement surgery through its advanced design and functionalities.
