Tufts Medicine, a leading academic health system in Massachusetts, and Acadia Healthcare Company, the largest standalone provider of behavioral health services in the U.S., have announced the beginning of construction on a state-of-the-art, 144-bed behavioral health hospital in Malden, Massachusetts. The groundbreaking ceremony took place at the hospital's future site on 100 Hospital Road, celebrating the partnership between Tufts Medicine and Acadia. Scheduled to open in the Fall of 2025, the hospital aims to become a center of excellence serving patients of all ages.
Over the years, MelroseWakefield Hospital and Lawrence Memorial Hospital have gained recognition for their inpatient behavioral healthcare services in their communities. The new hospital aims to build on this legacy by offering advanced inpatient behavioral healthcare and intensive outpatient programs, ensuring a continuum of care for patients and their families.
Turner Construction Company has been chosen as the general contractor, while Stengel Hill Architecture will oversee the project's architectural design. The hospital's design is focused on creating a healing environment for patients.
Beyond providing quality behavioral health services in the greater Boston area, the hospital will serve as a teaching institution for psychiatry and other behavioral health professions. It will play a key role in training students and residents from the Tufts University School of Medicine, addressing the shortage of clinical behavioral healthcare professionals in the region. This initiative aims to further Tufts Medicine's mission of improving the health and well-being of the state's residents.
