The DISC Surgery Center in Newport Beach is actively seeking eligible participants for a clinical study on artificial disc replacement. This study, which includes qualified patients aged 18 to 75 requiring cervical surgery at two consecutive levels, is a collaborative effort with board-certified spine surgeons at DISC. These surgeons, known for their expertise, are collaborating with experts from approximately 30 clinical sites nationwide. The primary objective of the research is to assess the safety and effectiveness of the Orthofix M6-C™ artificial cervical disc, which is already FDA-approved for single-level procedures. The study specifically targets patients with two-level symptomatic cervical radiculopathy, with or without cord compression, and compares outcomes with those undergoing anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF).
Artificial disc replacement surgery, similar to ACDF, involves removing the damaged disc. However, in disc replacement, the void between vertebrae is filled with a specialized implant, the artificial disc, rather than a bone graft. This artificial disc aims to restore spacing between vertebrae while allowing some degree of motion. Given its substantial experience in outpatient spine care and expertise in advanced motion preservation techniques, DISC is well-suited to contribute to this research.
