Beaufort Memorial Hospital marked the 20th anniversary of its Cochrane Heart Center by inaugurating a newly renovated cardiac catheterization lab equipped with the most advanced technology available in the nation. This upgraded cath lab plays a pivotal role in the expansion of their interventional cardiology program, with the aim of delivering swift and comprehensive care to a considerable number of patients facing both life-threatening cardiac emergencies and planned procedures.
The advanced digital angiography system excels in image quality, contributing to improved clinical decision-making, reduced radiation exposure, and enhanced patient comfort. The cath lab is instrumental in the treatment of critical conditions such as heart attacks, where a sudden blockage in a coronary artery can compromise heart muscle function. In these cases, the cath lab is where the crucial percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedure is performed urgently, involving stents to reopen blocked arteries and restore blood flow, preventing potential permanent damage to the heart. This life-saving and relatively painless stenting procedure results in a swift recovery, improving the patient's overall quality of life.
