Monday, May 13, 2024

Laborie Medical Technologies recently presented encouraging findings from studies spanning 2 and 5 years regarding its Optilume® BPH Catheter System, a state-of-the-art therapeutic solution for addressing lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH).

The Optilume® BPH Catheter System offers a distinctive approach to minimally invasive surgical therapy (MIST), combining mechanical dilation with a proprietary double-lobe balloon alongside targeted delivery of paclitaxel.

Director of the Men's Wellness Program at Mount Sinai Health System and Principal Investigator for the Optilume® BPH Catheter System PINNACLE trial, presented data from both the 2-year PINNACLE study and the 5-year EVEREST study.

The results showcased a sustained Maximum Urinary Flow Rate (Qmax) of 19.0mL/second at 2 years, accompanied by a notable 53% reduction in International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS).

In the EVEREST study, the 5-year data indicated an improved Qmax of 20.6mL/sec and a significant IPSS decrease of 10.2 points compared to baseline, with a low retreatment rate of 3.8% (1.3% surgical and 2.5% medical). Importantly, there were no reported adverse effects on sexual function in either study.

"Optilume for BPH presents an exciting and minimally invasive option for men suffering from this condition, as demonstrated by the positive outcomes observed in both short and long-term trials."

President and CEO of Laborie, underscored the company's commitment to enhancing patient care, stating, "At Laborie, our mission is centered around preserving and restoring human dignity through clinically effective and safe treatment options.

The Optilume® BPH Catheter System represents a significant advancement in this regard, providing clinicians and their patients with impactful solutions, as evidenced by the recent clinical data presented at the AUA Annual Meeting."
