IlluminOss Receives FDA Clearance for Light Console Strengthening Fragile and Geriatric Bone Implants

Thursday, February 01, 2024

IlluminOss Medical has recently obtained FDA 510(k) clearance for its latest Light-Emitting Diode (LED) Console, which accelerates the curing process of its proprietary light-cured implants. These unique implants, resembling balloons, are specifically designed to bolster and mend fragile and geriatric bones.

Through a minimally invasive procedure, the implants are inserted into the bone canal and infused with a light-curing liquid. Subsequently, a fiber optic cable transmits a blue light wavelength from the Light Console to cure the implant, significantly reducing hardening time, sometimes by as much as 50%.

This advancement not only decreases operative time and hospital expenses but also strengthens fractured or weakened bones, enabling patients to regain mobility and resume daily activities promptly. Moreover, the new Console, which is approximately 40% smaller, represents a technological leap forward, utilizing LEDs instead of traditional metal halide bulbs. This upgrade enhances efficiency and patient outcomes, reflecting IlluminOss Medical's commitment to continuous research and development for the benefit of both patients and healthcare professionals."
