Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System and Masimo Establish a Multi-Year, System-Wide Monitoring Collaboration

Friday, September 01, 2023

Masimo and the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System (FMOLHS), a network of ten hospitals headquartered in Baton Rouge, serving communities across Louisiana and Mississippi, have entered into a multi-year partnership to introduce advanced Masimo monitoring technologies throughout their healthcare system. This extensive collaboration involves the adoption of Masimo SET® pulse oximetry as the standard, including the deployment of Radius PPG® tetherless pulse oximetry to ensure continuous patient monitoring, even during patient mobility.

Furthermore, FMOLHS is embracing Masimo Patient SafetyNet™, a system providing supplementary remote monitoring and alarm capabilities at centralized view stations, while also facilitating two-way notifications to clinicians through Replica®-equipped smartphones. This comprehensive approach will oversee the monitoring of 500 beds across various units, such as medical-surgical, orthopedic, bariatric, and cardiovascular step-down units. The collective implementation of these advanced monitoring technologies aims to enhance patient safety and streamline care workflows by ensuring constant, accurate bedside and surveillance monitoring and automating seamless patient data transfer across FMOLHS's entire healthcare continuum.

Following a comprehensive evaluation that compared Masimo with their previous monitoring technology, FMOLHS, which has garnered recognition for its commitment to enhancing patient safety, concluded that Masimo SET® and Patient SafetyNet offered compelling advantages. The extensively validated Masimo SET® technology, supported by over 100 studies, has consistently demonstrated its superiority over other pulse oximetry technologies, notably in reducing false alarms while maintaining accuracy and reliability even during patient motion and low perfusion—vital for FMOLHS's mission to enhance monitoring, especially in pediatric and neonatal care.

The combined utilization of Masimo Patient SafetyNet for centralized remote monitoring and SET® technology has also shown a remarkable ability to reduce response team activations and ICU transfers by enabling clinicians to detect early signs of patient deterioration.

Furthermore, FMOLHS has identified the Masimo Hospital Automation™ platform as an essential tool for automating admission-discharge-transfer (ADT) processes and the seamless transfer of patient monitoring data to electronic medical records (EMRs) used throughout the healthcare system. This not only streamlines care workflows but also ensures that healthcare providers consistently access the most current and comprehensive patient data, empowering them to make more informed care decisions.
