Biosense Webster Unveils OPTRELL™ Mapping Catheter Featuring TRUEref™ Technology for Precise Mapping of Challenging Cardiac Arrhythmias

Tuesday, July 25, 2023

Biosense Webster, a renowned leader in cardiac arrhythmia treatment and a part of Johnson & Johnson MedTech, has introduced the OPTRELL™ Mapping Catheter with TRUEref™ Technology in the United States. This cutting-edge catheter, powered by the CARTO® 3 System, is designed for high-definition electrophysiological mapping, specifically targeting complex cardiac arrhythmias like persistent atrial fibrillation (AFib), redo AFib ablation, atrial tachycardia, and ventricular tachycardia.

The prevalence of cardiac arrhythmias, particularly AFib, affects millions of people globally, with a significant number residing in the U.S. If left untreated, AFib can lead to severe complications such as heart disease or stroke. Catheter ablation has proven to be a safe and effective procedure for restoring normal heart rhythm by correcting abnormal electrical signals.

The OPTRELL™ Mapping Catheter features 48 electrodes arranged in a fixed array formation along six splines, facilitating high-resolution directional mapping when used in conjunction with the CARTO® 3 System. Its close electrode spacing and small electrodes contribute to higher signal resolution, resulting in improved heart maps. This enhanced understanding of arrhythmia locations enables clinicians to develop more effective ablation strategies.

The catheter's fixed electrode array structure allows for swift and efficient identification of ablation targets. Integrated with the CARTO® 3 System, which includes Local Conduction Vectors displaying real-time direction and speed of electrical impulses in the heart, the OPTRELL™ Mapping Catheter aids clinicians in comprehending complex circuits and detecting gaps in ablation lesions. This combination leads to quicker identification of areas requiring ablation and more efficient therapy application.

With the addition of the OPTRELL™ Mapping Catheter to its diagnostic mapping portfolio, Biosense Webster provides physicians with comprehensive tools to diagnose and treat various arrhythmias effectively.
